FAQ
With the processes of energy advice and consulting for our clients, we are able to reduce the impact on their carbon footprint by up to 100% of their electricity consumption. All this done at the same time with the objective of saving on your energy procurement and supply costs.
Most of our clients, each time a much higher percentage, have among their objectives the reduction of their emissions and/or carbon footprint. To achieve this, it is necessary to incorporate one or several energy purchase strategy mechanisms.
Although we do not guarantee a percentage of savings in the results that we obtain for our clients, depending on their geographical location, risk appetite or aversion, and the times of that moment in the market, we have typically achieved savings from 15% to 35%. of savings against CFE Basic Supply.
We are trained to handle projects of any size. The largest project we have handled is for a company whose consumption exceeds 1,500,000 MWh (or 1,500 GWh) of energy consumption per year, with a demand greater than 365 MW. And we have managed a total of 2,190,000 MWh (or 2,190 GWh) of energy consumption per year, with a demand of more than 530 MW in all of our clients.
Historically we have achieved savings of up to 45% compared to CFE Basic Supply. We are currently seeing savings closer to home and up to 35%. However, according to our studies, this will depend on your geographical location, risk appetite or aversion, and the times of the market at that moment.
The transition is completely transparent in terms of energy supply, continuity and reliability. Simply now who is going to charge the energy will be your new supplier.
You will no longer receive bills from CFE. However, your company will continue to be connected to and use the CFE Distribución or CFE Transmision network, depending on the voltage level of your connection. Therefore, your company will continue to receive the same indiscriminate service from CFE Distribución or Transmission.
First of all, it is important to define the objectives that you are trying to achieve, call it cost reduction, reduction of your emissions or carbon footprint, minimization or elimination of risks. Once this has been determined, then the next step is to design a tender that requests proposals in this regard. Here is the key to achieving your goals.
The only investment is in the change of meters and their communication systems. The cost of such investment varies depending on the size of your demand and consumption.
It is very difficult to “hit” the ideal moment. The best time will always be when you have the best information at hand to make the best decision at that time.
Buying energy from a supplier under the electricity market is much more complex than buying energy from CFE Distribución Básico. There are many more charges and credits in each billing as well as variations that are due to changes in your consumption patterns. The reliability of the selected supplier is also a key element in the quality of its after-sales service.
First, significantly reducing your costs and your emissions or carbon footprint. The disadvantages are the investment that must be made in meters and their communication system, as well as adding a degree of relative uncertainty and complexity to the purchase of energy. However, with the correct advice, this path is easy to travel.
Of course, as long as they belong to the same group and economic interest and the total aggregate demand is greater than 1 MW.
Smart meters with an accuracy of 0.2% are required, which will have to be communicated to CFE / CENACE, all in compliance with the new Network Code.
Mexico has one of the most complex electricity markets in the world. However, this does not mean that it is not good. In fact, in our opinion, the Mexican electricity market is one of the best designed. However, an expert is required to achieve the best contracting decision, and an adequate contract operation, which helps to minimize costs and reduce risks, as well as advice on reviewing monthly billings.
In processes that we have managed, from the signing of the contract to the start of supply, it has taken an average of between 9 months and 14 months.
The best and almost only way to evaluate proposals is to use a model that simulates hourly in the past and in the future each proposal. A good consultant should be able to help you with this.
Depending on their appetite to cover their future needs, they range from short-term contracts (1 to 3 years), medium-term contracts (5 to 12 years), to long-term contracts (15 to 20 years). Obviously the trading conditions on each of these timeframes vary significantly.
The current regulation allows up to 500 KW of generation without the need for a generation permit. Above this threshold, a generation permit is required which, under the current federal administration, is practically impossible to obtain. A good energy consultant will be able to support you in evaluating all the options available to you and support you in making the best decisions.
The majority of our clients, and the percentage is becoming much higher, have among their objectives the reduction of their emissions and/or carbon footprint. To achieve this, it is necessary to incorporate one or several energy purchase strategy mechanisms. A good energy supply consultant can guide you in making the best decisions.

You can buy energy from a single supplier or split your purchase among multiple suppliers, as it suits you, depending on your geographic location. In order to make an accurate analysis that will provide an optimal solution, it is recommended to seek advice from an expert in energy purchasing.
A = Almost all the contracts we review have areas of opportunity. Additionally, sometimes these contracts are not being managed optimally. Energy Intelligence Consulting can advise you on not only identifying these areas of opportunity, but also suggesting proven negotiation strategies for modifying said contracts. Additionally, we can support them in auditing and/or optimal management of their contracts.
A consultant is one who works exclusively for his client, in this case the energy consumer/buyer. A broker is one that, on the one hand, is hired by the energy consumer/buyer himself, but who in turn receives compensation from the suppliers for placing their energy.
A consultant does not sell energy, a broker in a certain way does.
There are other consultants who feel that they can help you make a successful purchase of energy but since their experience has been as energy sellers, they lack the “fang” as an energy buyer. There are others whose experience is from other markets and they are still in the process of understanding in depth the minute details of the electricity market in question. This learning curve will end up being paid by whoever hires them.
If your business wants to have its own power purchasing team on your side who is capable of helping you make the best decisions for your business, it would be a consultant.
If your company is willing to hand over the purchase decision to what is most financially convenient for you to a third party, then a broker.
Definitely. However, we, as energy buyers for more than 20 years, have a high degree of experience in energy purchase contracts, which sometimes exceeds the legal frontier.
